Battleship (2012 movie) copied off of Mass Effect game ?

Anyone else notices that resembles in these two?
it looks like these aliens in Battleship are copied off of mass effect games. When i watched the movie first time, it seemed so similiar to something and then i started thinking where have i seen these aliens before?! and Mass Effect game is what came in my mind. Those alien ships are like Reapers and these suits those aliens wear, they look so alike with those suits that are used in mass effect game by some races.
Those cog shredders (or whatever you wanna call them) are not from mass effect (at least i dont remember them in game), but i remember there were some movie/s with similar things. Can't remember the name of movie and cant bother checking either. some movie with some time machine and some cogs that ate up stuff.
even tho Battleship has lot of copied stuff in it, its good movie and worth watching.
Effects are awesome, 2h+ duration and story is cool too. only thing i didn't like that cartoon look of aliens. Without their suits, those aliens look like some cartoon monsters.
