TP-LINK TL-WN8200ND Virtual Box Problem

Post by Legu »

Well the problem is that when using virtual box with bt5 r3, and tryin to get the usb wifi working, it doesnt work. Virtual Box finds, the device, and while being in bt "the lsusb command" shows that the device is there aswell, but the drivers are missing.

How can this problem be fixed? I have thought about using livecd and then loadin somehow the original windows drivers with ubuntu aswell, but it seems to be a lot of work.

A picture is included aswell, hope it helps to identify the problem.
Image

NOTE: 2357:0100 is the usb device.

as far as linux is concerned, name of adapter means nothing.
what chipset does it have? you need to know the chipset, then google for drivers.

doesn't look good based on TP-LINK site
http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/downl ... version=V1

it's very new adapter as far as i know so might need to give it time.
if you're trying to get it to work with aircrack, go on their site and see what they have to offer.
but again, you need to know CHIPSET. if you can't find out, ask TP-LINK support. give them your device's detailed info and ask which chipset it uses or if they have linux drivers.

as i said, you need to find out what Chipset your card has, name doesn't say anything. Most have Atheros chipsets which are highly supported by aircrack and linux. WN822N driver might work, you should give it a go.

you're jumping into things, first thing is to find out what chipset it uses, maybe its ath9k_htc or ath9k, so in that case lot of drivers would work.
email TP-LINK and ask them which chipset your specific adapter uses.

I contacted TP-Link, and after 3 days, i received an answer. I was surprised i did. But now im even more pissed. All they did was telling me that it doesnt support Linux, and sent me a link with the specifications from their website. Ofc it is not shown which chipset it uses. They are completely useless, i wonder if they even know what chipset means.

I have almost the same problem, I am trying to use the tplink 8200nd with opensuse 12.2 (x86_64). According to the fcc code the chipset used is rtl8192cu.
I have installed the compat-wireless 3.7 which have support for this chipset, however the wireless is still not recognized.
Also I tried to compile the wireless driver from the realtek page, but I am still unable to compile it for the error:

Code: Select all

/usr/src/linux-3.4.11-2.16/arch/x86/Makefile:96: CONFIG_X86_X32 enabled but no binutils support
I will continue trying to install tplink 8200nd and posting the results.

P.D.
More info:
I have installed:
  • binutils
    cross-x86_64_binutils
    kernel 3.4.11-2.16.1
    kernel-devel
    kernel-firmware

if that's the chipset, it will work in BackTrack5 R3
it's same chipset as my Alfa AWUS036NHR has and it works in BT5R3, well up to a point tho. im working on it to fix it and get full compatibility out of it.
it works 100% tho.
7Ds (username on this forum) got NHR working fine with compat-wireless drivers and that chipset.

The fcc code is

Code: Select all

TE7WN8200ND
and the full documentation of the device are in https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ ... E7WN8200ND, specifically in the internal photos (https://apps.fcc.gov/eas/GetApplication ... id=1884398) it can be see that the chipset used is an rtl8192cu.

I highly appreciate your help.
Best regards
Erick

P.D.
Also a thread to find a solution to set the 8192cu driver working for the tplink 8200nd is open in https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get ... oblem.html where the openSUSE community are helping to find a solution.

Nice info, however you really need to learn to post links, its a mess.
also i cant see the images i get "You are not authorized to access this page."

anyway, try BackTrack5 .. or what is your purpose ?
cracking or is there any deeper meaning to it, like using Linux as primary ?

If you want to crack networks or set it on monitor mode, just download BackTrack5 and it will work out of the box.

If you get 100% solid solution, would be nice if you post it here.

erick.morales, if your intentional goal is to try out some Network Breaching, do not neglect Beini 1.2.3 (WPA\WPA2) Handshakes & Xiaopan 0.4.1 (Reaver). It just might be your saving grace. Those 2 Tiny Core Linux Distro's were made specifically for the rtl8192cu.
