Mineral Oil Cooled PC are trash

Post by KEN »

My pc was overheating from a while so i was searching about different things to cool down the temp and then i came across this oil cooled pc's they say.

People say that wow its in oil and it works so a pc inside a liquid will be so cool.
But i dont get this. When you're working with mineral oil it will be fine for a while but after some time your hardware is going to heat up the oil which in turn will make your pc more hot than it should be in normal atmosphere?
Liquid cooling is good coz in liquid cooling water is in circulation not stable at one place. But in this they fill the cpu box with oil and oil is not moving so it gets hotter and hotter.
I dont think I am wrong but if anyone(from inside or outside the forum) think I am,then tell me how? O_o

your logic / common sense is indeed correct, ive had the same tought myself, that what use is mineral oil standing there ? it takes 4-5 hours maybe to heat it up, but then it will stay there and might overheat. i doubt that oil would start boiling tho, room temp is enough to cool down the oil. for example if you go outside with 15C, it feels quite warm or bit chilly, but if you go into 15C water, it feels COLD. so my point being, densitiy of liquid is lot higher than air, so it means if your pc is 90C in 20C room, then in 20C liquid it would be 50C or less.

i would go for water. yes water. water itself does not conduct electricity, its impurity in water that makes it conduct electricity. if you buy condensate water or let it rain into a bucket (cleaned plastic bucket with filter on it) and use that, then its ok to put your pc in it, however you must still clean everything out of it and seal it afterwards.
water cools better than oil.

other option is to use some kind of amber or clue and put it all over your components, sealing every possible way short circuiting anything. and then put water in it.

best solution is to do both. seal components + condensated water.
and additionally could get radiator (any that works) and then make it circulate thru the radiator using some high powered fans. that would keep pc cool enough.

it goes offtopic, but one more way would be to simply get AC and put it in front of pc. i got my cpu temp to 14C with AC :)

40C makes a big difference.
so oil cooled pc are not trash afterall.
Doing that thing with water is some sensitive work :)

it was only speculation about temp, since i have no experience.
it was just common sense / logic. if it comes to computers, not everything is logical. my point being, is that i dont think cpu is capable of boiling oil or water in room temp, even if room temp is like 40C. however if cpu can go up to 120c ... dunno, but i highly doubt in that.

No matter what but if the liquid is stable then it will overheat in approx.15 hours.Noone can tell for sure though until they test it out but ha who is doing that?
