Torrent programs causing serious problems

Post by Sethioz »

Well i havent had the problem that torrent program slows down net, but V has the problem that when he downloads any torrents .. then he usually can't browse net.
What happend to me ... was that all torrent programs i installed caused OS crash once i started download. like 1-5mins and crash.
I tried all kind of things ... nothing helped. cleaned registry, reinstalled..tried different clients..etc. still same shit. It showed me that blue screen of death saying either this BAD_POOL_CALLER or that PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.
So i googled for those errors. Basically ..
BAD_POOL_CALLER - caused by KMD (kernel mode driver), there are other factors, but since torrent program caused it, it has to be that one. Kernel mode is some networking stuff...i really dont know every detail of windows. so i tried to update that driver, but it seems its not really a driver either.
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - means that the page file part tried to be accessed/read does not exist.

If you read what those errors are about, you should know that it is definetly caused by some kind of networking stuff.

The solution that seems to be working just fine ... is that i change the limit of the ''half-open connections''.
TCP/IP half-open connection limit, it can be changed in the ''tcpip.sys'' file.
Note that i am still not sure if it even worked. Its been downloading on about 30-90kb/s for about 35 mins and so far, so good. I will post update once its clear if it worked or not ... if it downloads whole 4gb of the torrent, then i will consider it as success.
Note that default half-open limit was 10, i changed it to 100.

Now about slowing down...uTorrent seemed to slow down net ..so im guessing it has something to do with the max connections. It has to be like 10-200. Depends on your net and pc

UPDATE
ok its been running for like 7 hours by now and everything works just fine. Speed is not very fast, but i guess its because of torrent and because i have only 100 connections not 200. I also suggest to lower the max connections if it starts to lag out other programs.

yes i have that prob when downloading torrents but it seems to struck me in complete random some times it disables browosing and other times it doesn't and no dl/up speed doesn't play no role in wheter net browosing goes off or not

i think its in the limit, not in the actual connections. check it. . im sure you have over 500, but TCP/IP supports only like 200 or something ... at least bitcomet said that it supports 200 for me.

lil update.
i installed uTorrent again .. and now it seems fine. its far more faster than bitcomet.
i tested one certain torrent ...
bitcomet didnt go over 80kbs
uTorrent has 110-160kbs right now ...a little update lol ... now speed is killer. ...300-1100kbs
maybe its still the tcpip.sys that causes those crashes. ...note that i put ''max connected peers per torrent'' to 199 and my tcpip.sys allows 200 half-open connections....i really dont know this stuff so well. but im pretty sure that this is the problem.
''global maximum number of connections'' is on 1000.

I will update this topic as soon as i do these tests:
put ''max connected peers per torrent'' over 200
start downloading more than one torrent (so maximum number of globally connected peers will be over 200)

oh yes, and i dont have lag while browsing...before when it started fucking up i got huge lag too

i found out what the problem is for me in vista... as i never had this problem at all in XP

The problem can happen in xp and it is to do with the amount of connections but not within utorrent... it is to do within your pc

yes yes thats what i was talking about, its the FILE called ''tcpip.sys''.
I didnt read the the link, but i know that its this file. It sucks that 200 is max, maybe if ill change it to 500 it wont crash.
I mean change the half-open limit in the tcpip.sys, but i doubt, i think it has something to do with my shitty ethernet or mobo.

what the hell ?? so microsoft have limited it to fuck up your pc ?
makes lil sense ... if your pc crashes and nothing responds then this automatic error sending still has some non-crashed resources that work ? .. thats what you meant ? .. well its STUPID !!!
i disabled all those error reporting long time ago .. and my windows doesnt make any contact with microsoft.

i remember that using uTorrent for longer time +3 hours made my DNS go nutz so i was unable to log into msn or use web...etc.
well because this is wht DNS does .. resolves hostnames to ips.
anyways here's a solution...just use the openDNS servers not the default one (your isp or router).
http://opendns.com/
DNS servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
it should fix all of your DNS problems.
